Athelstan Sound, Resort Studios, Margate
I convened the May session of Athelstan Sound. We performed a musical séance of the space at Resort Studios, exploring the fabric of the building.
The structural framework of certain objects and locations can absorb energies and memories as time passes, and through their sonification, we attempted to discover the building’s concealed stories.
The session was an investigation into Stone Tape Theory - the speculation that ghosts and hauntings are analogous to tape recordings, and that electrical mental impressions released during emotional or traumatic events can somehow be "stored" in moist rocks and other items and "replayed" under certain conditions.
Attendees were invited to bring along acoustic or electronic instruments, their voice, or their body to take part.
